Middle School Education (5-8) Degree Overview
The Middle Level Education Program at Thomas College is the only one of its kind in Maine and enables aspiring teachers to receive dual certification for grade levels 5-8 by pursuing one of three tracks: English Language Arts and Social Studies, English Language Arts and Science, or Math and Science. Coursework underscores the importance of co-teaching, inquiry-driven instruction, and interdisciplinary education, and the program is fully customizable. You will spend over 900 hours in the classroom, up to 200 of which are paid, and you can expand your certification to span grades 5-12 by taking our Secondary Methods class. With the three-year option, this program empowers you to follow an accelerated, practical pathway to a rewarding career—with the flexibility to pursue employment across the country through teaching credential reciprocity.
