At Thomas College, esports is recognized as a varsity athletics program. The Thomas Esports teams have access to a fully-equipped college esports training facility armed with 18 Alienware Aurora 13 computers, a full arsenal of various peripherals, Secret Labs TITAN EVO gaming chairs, and 2 console-equipped TVs. The Thomas Esports CAVE (Competitive Academic Varsity Esports Room) is available to players 7 days a week.

Owen Vining

Owen “Feitan” Vining was named Head Esports Coach at Thomas College in November of 2021. Vining competed as an amateur League of Legends and Fortnite player for two years. He was a Top-100 Challenger on the Solo Queue ladder in Season-7 and Top-50 challenger on the Solo Queue Ladder in Season-8.

He placed 2nd and 3rd place at LAN ETS in 2017-2018 and placed in the Top-200 of online tournaments in Fortnite hosted by Epic Games. Vining founded an esports team at La Salle University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Computer Science.

Vining began coaching as an Assistant Coach specializing in League of Legends at Arcadia University in 2020, and he was promoted to Head Coach specializing in Overwatch at Arcadia University in 2021. He used his knowledge and experience as a player to help his student-athletes break down games on a fundamental level and gain perspective through problem solving and critical thinking.

He will facilitate all esports teams at Thomas College and help esports student-athletes learn and grow in ways that will help them beyond their time at Thomas College.
